Building Your Spiritual Expectations

We are all subject to four basic channels of information flow:

The voice of God

Our own voice

The enemy’s voices

The world’s voices

The very best way to become more in tune with Holy Spirit’s voice is to take two steps:

  1. Decrease the time you spend hearing the voices  and seeing scenes that do not spiritually build you up and
  2. Increase the time you spend seeing and listening to those things that build your expectations of becoming active in doing more of the works of the Spirit.

When we wanted to grow in our faith (think expectations) we began to search YouTube for “miracles by Jesus.” Videos come up that were outstandingly exciting and pure. None of them exalted an organization or a person other than Jesus. One YouTube title enabled us to watch 160 people tell 5 minute stories every kind. I couldn’t imagine how Jesus would manage to bail so many folks out of their impossible situations. Doing this evening after evening gave us joy and a hunger for more. Testimonies are one of the best ways to build faith, destroy doubt and unbelief. Remember, filling your stomach with good food reduces your hunger. Filling your soul and spirit with good spiritual food makes you more hungry.

TV is neither good or bad, however what we watch IS. Don’t spend time on tracking anything that is the opposite of: “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8 NLT).  I can say from many years of experience there is no other way to build and sustain our ability to expect to see the supernatural gifts manifest through us. Totally change your TV tastes and habits. For many, reading about the practices of those who are powerful in ministering to the hurting and needy is another life changing activity.
